Thursday 9th August: Open Meeting STOKEFEST

Stoke St Michael Community Events Group are holding an open meeting for all those involved with StokeFest and also anyone who would like to volunteer to help in any way

Saturday 18th August: STOKEFEST
Stoke St Michael Playing Field from 1.30pm
Stoke St Michael Community Events Group has been awarded a grant of £3,230 from the Big Lottery Funding for STOKEFEST 2018 taking place at the playing field.
The objectives of STOKEFEST are to promote positive use of the playing field and to improve community cohesion so there’s going to be something for everyone!
The day’s events include a Dog Show (classes from 2pm), Children’s Entertainer, Facepainter, Chill Zone for Youth Club, Drumming Workshop, stalls from village groups plus we have an evening of live music with 3 bands playing from 5pm - 11pm.
Look out for the leaflet coming through your door soon for more details, and please support the hard work going into this event.

Saturday 25th August: The War Memorial Village Hall are organising a Barn Dance on August 25th.
Families are welcome to come and join us for a great evenings entertainment and hot meal. Chilli Con Carne plus rice or bread. Vegetarian option available. Adult tickets £7 per person. Adult plus child U16 £10.00. Adult must accompany child on evening. Doors open at 7.30pm. Dancing commences 8pm. All participants wearing appropriate barn dance costumes will receive a free drink.

Thursday 13th September: Stoke St Michael Countil Playing Field Makeover Meeting
7.30pm War Memorial Hall
The children’s play area is very tired, the tennis court has fallen into disrepair… the Parish Council feel it’s time to take a look at what the village can do to makeover this valuable community space.
Please come along to this informal get together to discuss a way forward – all very welcome!

10am – 1pm, War Memorial Hall

Sunday 30th September: Up, Down & Around/Scarecrow Trail
Colour Run, Playing Field, 10.30am
Up, Down & Around, Knatchbull Arms, 11am
September 31st sees the return of the village fun run organised by Stoke St Michael Community Events Group
The Colour Run will take place at the Playing Field at 10.30am for the children (registration from 10.15am) - followed by Up, Down & Around at 11am from the Knatchbull Arms (registration from 10.30am).
As many laps as you can do in an hour… everyone welcome to take part, walk it… run it…push it!
We will be closing the route to traffic from 10am – 1pm as last year.
There’s also a new event planned on this day – Stoke St Michael Scarecrow Trail which is being run by Stoke St Michael Primary School PTA (with the support of the Community Events Group). More details to follow soon but please get your Disney themed scarecrow creations underway – something to do over the school holidays maybe?!!!

Saturday 10th/Sunday 11th November: Armistice Day Centenary Event
Stoke St Michael Community Events Group have been awarded a grant of £4,700 from the Heritage Lottery Fund for an Armistice Day Centenary Event.
We are currently researching the 17 men who lost their lives in WWI conflict as well as exploring the heritage of the War Memorial Hall and looking at how the war affected village life and those who returned home from the war.
Craft projects and activities are planned involving many groups in the village and we will produce a book which will preserve our findings for prosperity.
On November 10th during the day there will be displays of photos, stories and memorabilia plus tea rooms at the Hall, followed by a Tea Dance on the evening.
There will also be a Service of Remembrance at 11am on November 11th. More details to follow

Saturday 27th October Lunch Time Get Together
Senior residence lunch time meal and historian get together. £5.00 per head. Pie and Mash with pud to follow. Open to all village residence. There is a historic theme to the event as old documents regarding the village hall will be on display. Hoping for lots of chatter and nattering.
Round the World Buffet & Dance
Continuing the day the WM Village Hall are holding a social evening with a Round the World theme. Tickets £5.00 per head to cover entertainment on the night. Attendees to bring their own food with a World Wide theme which can be shared by all. Za Za Bazaar eat your heart out..
